Walter's began in August 1945 by Walter T. Strycharz in the name of Walter's Home Appliance. Walter’s home appliance was the first appliance dealer. Walter’s home appliances dealt with everything from washing machines to baby cribs. Walter’s home appliance was one of the largest dealers at that time. There were no natural gas lines those days, so if a person wanted gas, propane was the only answer. Propane was used on main streets and city like areas. Gradually, when the natural gas line started figuring, Walter began losing local "city" propane sales. But it was supported by new rural customers, so the sales seemed to maintain a comfortable level.
The main advantage Walter had was that he could speak Polish and many others could not speak English. Walter could always use his talents and sell Walter’s home appliance conveniently. The propane business always had steady customers and Walter always made the deliveries and gained prominence by offering his services perfectly.
In 1954, Walter's Appliance and Furniture came into existence. Walter sold a lot of furniture and bedding. Walter’s home appliance once again was the areas largest dealer. Similarly he was the biggest television dealer. Walter home appliance included a lot of AM radios as well. In 1970s and 1980s, bigger chain stores and department stores came into existence and ripped off small dealers.
Selling appliances became very difficult. Walter’s home appliance being the initiated home appliance products gained the prominence and acquiring fame in the consumer market. They always believed in customer service and treated each customer as the first customer. This service oriented nature always withheld the consumer market in using Walter’s home appliances.
