Katie Holmes embodies the wholesomeness and
charm of the prototypical All-American girl

About
Katie Holmes |
|
A brunette beauty from a close-knit
Catholic family in Toledo. Katie Holmes is part of the long line of young
actresses that dominated the airwaves a few years back, but she was one of
the few who managed to stick around after the wave died down. Katie Holmes
hit the big time in 1998 as Josephine "Joey" Potter on the coming-of-age TV
series Dawson's Creek. (Joey was the best chum and sometime love interest
for Dawson, played by James Van Der Beek; the show ended its run in 2003.)
Holmes parlayed her TV fame into roles including The Ice Storm (1997, with
Tobey Maguire), Go (1999), and the academic dramedy Wonder Boys (2000, with
Michael Douglas). She has since played the lead in Pieces of April (2003,
with Patricia Clarkson and First Daughter (2004, with Michael Keaton, and
co-starred with Christian Bale in the big summer movie Batman Begins. In
June of 2005 she became engaged to actor Tom Cruise after a much-publicized
courtship and a proposal from Cruise at the Eiffel Tower. In October the
pair announced they were expecting a child, and a daughter, Suri, was born
18 April 2006.

Katie Holmes's Birthday |
Born
Kate Noelle Holmes on December 18, 1978 in Toledo, OH, Katie Holmes embodies
the wholesomeness and charm of the prototypical All-American girl while
exhibiting just enough dark undertones to let her audience know that
America's Sweetheart has a few tricks up her sleeve. As angst-ridden tomboy
Joey Potter on the WB network's Dawson's Creek, Holmes went from relative
unknown to, as indicated by a 1999 Teen People ranking, one of the "21
Hottest Stars Under 21."

Katie Holmes as Actress
|
|
Holmes grew up as part of a close-knit family in Toledo and first acted in
high-school productions. Participation in a national model and talent
convention landed her a trip to Los Angeles when she was 16, and it was
there that Holmes auditioned for a role in Ang Lee's The Ice Storm. The
film, which was released in 1997, won critical acclaim, and Holmes' role as
the object of Tobey Maguire's affections caught the attention of Kevin
Williamson. Williamson, known for his screenplays for such movies as Scream
and I Know What You Did Last Summer, was casting roles for his new TV
series, Dawson's Creek. Holmes was asked to audition, and did so via
videotape. She won the part of Joey Potter, and the series, which premiered
in January of 1998, met with a positive reception from both critics and
television viewers. Soon the series' young stars were in hot demand, with
Holmes in particular receiving attention for her measured and insightful
performance as Joey.
It was not long before Holmes appeared in her second film, 1998's teen
conspiracy thriller Disturbing Behavior, which met with lackluster reviews
but did fairly well at the box office. Holmes' next venture, Doug Liman's
1999 Go, found greater favor with the critics. In her role as the sweet and
slightly insecure Claire Montgomery, Holmes won praise even from critics who
disliked almost everything else about the film. Coupled with the continuing
success of Dawson, the film helped to set the foundations for what is
shaping up to be a lengthy and illustrious career.
In 2000, Holmes further built upon this foundation with high-profile turns
in Curtis Hanson's Wonder Boys and Sam Raimi's The Gift. The former featured
her as a college student with a crush on her English professor (Michael
Douglas), while the latter, a Southern gothic thriller co-starring Cate
Blanchett and Greg Kinnear, saw her subvert her nice-girl image by playing a
scheming and promiscuous young socialite -- and in the process flashing the
audience with substantially more than her famous grin. Holmes alternated
between a Joey Potter-esque innocent and a particularly delusional
psychopath in 2002's Abandon, and while the movie itself did not fare well
with critics or audiences, Holmes won more praise for her versatility. After
the long-anticipated end of Dawson's Creek, Holmes could be seen in the
psychological Phone Booth with Colin Farrell, and in 2003's Pieces of April,
which found the young actress in the part of a punky family outcast. In
2004, Holmes starred alongside Michael Keaton in director Forest Whitaker's
First Daughter.

Loyal reader
Brandon was good enough to upload this clip from the CBS Evening News
with Katie Couric, showing off the new Suri Cruise pictures from the
cover of Vanity Fair that goes on sale tomorrow.
Now, personally, I don't really care about all this celebrity baby
nonsense, but this is fairly newsworthy I guess, so here it is.
Alright, so I've got to admit, for the demon spawn of Tom Cruise and
Katie Holmes, that's a pretty cute kid. Okay, it's a cute kid regardless
of who her parents are *cough*, but why does she look asian?

Katie Holmes vs. Tom Cruise: Fight! |
There
really aren't two celebrities who annoy me more right now than Tom
Cruise and Katie Holmes. Well, maybe Paris Hilton. And Britney Spears.
But Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes are definitely in the top five. Anyway,
I don't like them. I think their relationship is a sham, and their
"baby" is either some strange alien being brought into existence by the
sheer mental powers of the Scientology celebrity elite, or Verne Troyer.
So when news surfaces that there's trouble in fake paradise, I feel an
obligation to alert you, and to make fun of it, too. So what is the
trouble? Well, according to MSNBC's The Scoop, Tom and Katie got into a
huge fight which ended with Katie packing up, and taking baby Suri to
Ohio to be with her parents (who also don't like Tom Cruise).
"He told Katie he wasn't going,
considering the bad relations between him and her family," an "insider"
told the mag. "Katie was really happy he said that, because she'd been
afraid to admit to him that she didn’t want him to go."
The couple allegedly had a "huge argument" which ended with Katie
declaring, "I'm doing this and you can’t stop me." Her rep denies the
story.
The episode, however, may be giving Holmes second thoughts. A
"confidant" of hers told the mag: "Katie's very unhappy and beginning to
realize she may have made a major mistake being with Tom." Nice.
Obviously she made a major mistake. Now she's got a kid, and and a crazy
egomaniac midget to take care of. The best thing she could do at this
point would be to leave Cruise, and their ridiculous, publicist-created
relationship, and get back to whatever it was she was doing before she
became the worst part of Batman Returns.
And does anyone else think these photos of Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes
are staged? I mean, Tom Cruise never looked so tall in his life. Did
they have teh "paparazzi" photographer lying on the ground while they
posed "happily" making Tom look tall for the first time in his life?

| Katie Holmes Nurses Tom Cruise's Wounds |
|
Tom
Cruise and Katie Holmes were spotted out and about last night by the
paparazzi. Of course, as you can tell by the sequence of pictures, Katie was
perfectly happy to talk to the press, whereas Tom had a different idea.
He probably didn't want to talk about how Mission: Impossible 3 didn't meet
box office expectations, or maybe it was the fact that Katie Holmes' nursing
bra was peeking out the top of her blouse. Either way, he wasn't having it.
I guess he was just in a bad mood.
Oh, you may have noticed that I haven't yet called Tom Cruise a Tool in this
post. Well, I think I overused the word a bit, so I'm giving it a well
deserved break. But that doesn't mean Tom Cruise isn't a Tool. Because he
is.

Katie Holmes Graces Us With Her Presence |
Just
when you thought it was safe to read about gossip again, TomKat rears it's
ugly two-head, once again. Katie Holmes was allowed out of the compound
yesterday for her first public appearance since giving birth, and of course
it was at the Mission: Impossible 3 premiere. His Toolness, Tom Cruise
looked ever the tool, taking camera phone pictures with fans, and just
generally being a tool.
And I know Katie just gave birth a couple weeks ago, but damn! That girl is
huge! Didn't Heidi Klum and Gwyneth Paltrow lose all their baby weight after
45 minutes or something? Somebody get this girl a post-pregnancy personal
trainer.
