Speed
Definition: Speed is the essence of things - such a common expression. The term Speed could be referred as the rate of motion or rate of change of position which is often expressed as the distance traveled per unit of time, categorized under the study of physics or the rate of activity. Also the Speed is scalar quantity with dimensions distance per unit of time; the equivalent vector quantity to Speed is commonly known as the velocity. The Speed is measured precisely in the similar physical units of measurements as that of the velocity. Considering the mathematical notations of the Speed, it is as simply put as: velocity equals to the distance divided by the unit of time. The objects that generally move both horizontally as well as vertically such as the airplane distinguish the forward Speed and the climbing Speed. Speed is not a vector, it is the scalar. Velocity is the vector which means Speed plus direction. However, the term acceleration has only the direction, in some way, you could accelerate either by speeding up forwards or just slowing down, of course backwards, irrespective of the directions you are moving in, you are either precisely slowing up or say slowing down only.
Different Units of Speeds: There are various units of Speed referred individually for typical movements, such as: meters per second, kilometers per hour, miles per hour, knots which means the nautical miles per hour, Mach or Mach 1 is widely used for measuring the Speed of sound, and the Speed of light in vacuum is also one of the natural units of measurements. Some important conversions of Speed are also widely being used all over the world, for instance miles to kilometers per hour or knots to miles per hour / kilometers per hour. The most common instrument of measuring the accuracy of the Speed for any types of vehicles is well known as the Speedometer. The list of common Speed for common moving objects should also be well required to be developed. Speed is scalar, so it is rather more appropriate to use the term velocity, since no one actually runs backwards as fast as they run forwards. Thus it is needed to be treated accordingly.
Average of Speed: Another most interesting context in the chapter of Speed, which is required to be considered, is the average of Speed. The Speed as the physical property represents principally an instant Speed. To define the term Average Speed more precisely the term we widely use in our routine lives, means the rate of total distance or length and time interval. To elaborate further, if you are traveling 60 miles in 2 hours, your average Speed during the stipulated time frame is 60 divided by 2 equals to 30 miles per hour; however, your instantaneous Speed may have of course varied. The instantaneous Speed could be defined further as the function time on interval giving the average Speed. The average Speed could also be derived from Speed distribution function, either in time or on the basis of distance.
