Reading has become one of the most effective human activities in this rapid changing world transforming information into knowledge. An average reader reads at a speed of 200 words per minutes with 60% comprehension where as the top reader does over 1000 wpm. But the problem is that top readers represent only 1%. This is a not an encouraging situation because most of the average readers actively read newspapers, books, work related documents or computer documents in their daily routines.

If one pays extra attention to the beginning and ending portions of the book, he can finish the entire book very quickly. Normally, beginning sections give the basis of the contents where as the ending sections give the conclusion.

It involves sustained training and regular practice. Then one learns to combine and blend letter sounds to interpret words which are known as letter-by-letter reading. Gradually, one learns to recognize words without pronouncing each letter which is called as word-by-word reading. As the practice continues common words and sentences become familiar and the eyes starts reading sentence by sentence and the brain understands them quickly.
