Toddler Diaper
A new born baby spends a lot of time in toddler diapers. Thus it makes a great deal of impact in her short term and long term comforts depending on the type of toddler diaper the parents. For the new parents thus, the knowledge of the types of diapers can be of good use. If the diaper used is not comfortable, both the infant as well as her parents cannot have a peace of mind and this can affect the health of both of them in long run.
Among the various different types of toddler diapers in use today one of them is the disposable diaper. To have a closer look at these type of toddler diapers we can start going back to their history some where in early 60s. That is when people used plastic diapers. These type of toddler diapers were made of plastic on the outer side to keep it water proof and an inner lining. In between was a lot of paper fluff and an absorbent pad made of super absorbent material i.e. sodium polyacrylate. This super absorbent material has a characteristic of holding the liquid material with in itself. However the chemical used to make this material is said to be toxic and can give rise to allergic reactions. Reports from pediatricians state that this material has been found to stick to the infant’s genitals resulting into severe circumstances. One of the chemicals involved is Dioxin. According to Environmental Protection Agency, a byproduct of bleaching paper, Dioxin is one of the most toxic chemicals. It is said to be very harmful to the liver even in very small quantities. It can also cause damage to our immune system. Damage caused even without physical contact i.e. thru its fragrances includes headache, dizziness and rashes. Other problems reported by certain consumer protection agencies are chemical burns, insecticide odors, etc. Babies have been found to tear off the disposables and put the harmful material in their mouth and nose.
Even when this material was changed into a new gel during the late eighties it was not quite harmless. Many babies were reported to have severe skin problems and other infections resulting into fever and even vomiting. Even the people directly involved in the manufacturing process were said to suffer from long term negative effects like slow healing wounds, weight loss and problems related to female organs.
More than 50 percent of babies using disposable toddler diapers were said to have problems like rashes with in the first month with more than 15 percent of them reaching severe conditions. Because of the use of plastic the areas covered by it further move away from natural conditions and create problems due to rise in temperature as well. Also since they feel dry from outside even when wet from inside the frequency with which these diapers are changed gets reduced drastically.
No need to worry however. You have a good option available in terms of cloth diaper. These type of toddler diapers have all the advantages as they are easy, simple and less expensive. They have such systems where you are not even required to use pins. They do not need to be presoaked either. Collect them at one place and when the quantity is enough let the washing machine do the job for you.
