Toddler Lesson Plan

The Toddler age is a wonderful time, and a ripe opportunity for growth and improvement. Concepts introduced to a child during the toddler years will show through in the interests, personality, and intelligence of that child later on and even in adulthood.  Exercise, music, poetry, math, and art should be present activities in a toddler's life, but the attention span and retention of a two-year-old is limited. This, of course, is why there is no school for children at this age. However, whether you are a stay-at-home parent, an older sibling, a childcare provider, or you happen to have a toddle in your life, you can make lesson plans that are flexible, fun, and productive while remaining age-appropriate.

The first thing is to recognize about making a lesson plan for a toddler is that play is essential to learning at this point in development. If you want your child to love to learn, the way that you present learning is very important. Also, you should always be engaged with your child during your lesson. If you lose attention, so will he and ask questions and answer questions. Keep the conversation going and encourage strange ideas and thoughts.

Creating lesson plans for toddlers can give a parent or caretaker a chance to help with vital early childhood development. Bored children are usually not happy children, so take some of these suggestions or provide your own, but help build a good foundation for a lifetime of learning by starting early. Mainly children enjoy singing, so collect some learning songs. These would include songs such as ABC Song; Ten Little Indians; One, Two, and Buckle My Shoe. Parents often parents enjoy making up their own songs and rhymes to teach the fundamentals of a toddler education.

There are several ideas for this activity on the Internet and in child development books, but it is also a best idea to author some of your own where you can use things familiar to your young student. Give the child a stack of old magazines and clarify what a collage is. Be sure to make the option of theme educational. If it is something such as kinds of dogs then have a lesson prepared, after you’ve made the collage with the child. The lesson plan will include things like how many pictures of dogs have you found and how many of the dogs are black and etc. Another good theme choice is fruits, in which case you can incorporate the theme of the collage into the area of nutrition and taste variety fruits with the child. If you want to have an idea of vegetables for the collage, take it into another area by planting some vegetable seeds with the child's help.

Make a list of lesson plans that will be used with the child's favorite books. An alternative to this is to buy some new books and prepare your lessons around them. Point out shapes, colors, animals, etc. Have the child count items in the examples or tell the story in his own words after looking at the pictures. After reading it a few times, you’ll be able to stop at certain places and the toddler will fill in the next word or phrase. Try acting out the book with the child, probably even in costume to make the play more fun
